Steve gritted his teeth as another TNT boulder detonated thirty meters left of their crumbling obsidian platform. Beside him, Alex scanned the floating archipelago through cracked goggles - every jagged island teemed with unstable explosives. Their survival timer pulsed crimson in the upper right: 17:42 remaining. "Three gold bars between us and that portal," Steve shouted over the shriek of rotating TNT clusters carving spirals through the sulfurous air. The exit gateway shimmered mockingly across a chasm of fragmenting bedrock, accessible only via disintegrating stone pathways. Alex yanked him backward as a razor-edged TNT wheel shredded the ground where he'd stood. "One misstep and we're crater fodder. Stay between the glowstone markers." Their boots skidded across the lone safe zone - a ten-square-meter patch radiating faint protection against the archipelago's death cycle. They moved in tandem, Steve baiting explosive trajectories while Alex harvested gold ore from trembling monoliths. 2/3 progress blazed in their HUDs as the world shuddered. When the third gold bar materialized, Alex shoved Steve toward the portal's screaming vortex. "Run! I'll block the chain reaction!" TNT meteors rained as Steve leaped across collapsing platforms, the final gold bar burning through his inventory. Behind him, Alex's exoskeleton flared white-hot - containing the blastwave just long enough. Portal energy seared Steve's retinas as he fell through screaming coordinates, Alex's static-filled transmission his only epilogue: "Tell them we beat the sky."
