The barn lies empty, the gate swinging loose on its hinges. All the animals have bolted into the shadow-drenched forest, spooked by some unseen terror. Now the panicked new farmer—still learning the ropes—must track down his missing livestock before nightfall. The pig’s muddy tracks lead toward a thicket of brambles, the sheep’s stray tufts of wool snag on low branches near the creekbed, and faint clucks echo from a hollow log deeper in the woods. But danger prowls here: Glowing eyes peer from undergrowth, guttural growls rumble through the mist, and twisted shapes lurch between the trees. Grab the chicken before it flaps into thicker cover, coax the sheep away from precarious cliffs, lure the pig back with acorns—then run. Don’t stop. Don’t look back. Monsters hunger for easy prey, and the path home twists treacherously in the dark. One wrong turn, and those snapping jaws will close in. Get the animals safe inside the barn, slam the bolt shut, and pray the door holds until dawn.
